Right here at the beginning, let me tell any future brides reading this post, “you really must invest in professional hair and makeup for your wedding day, and there are none better in the greater Phoenix area than Louise and Kerri.” They joined me for another shoot recently and as always they hit nothing but home runs. Wait, what? A sports metaphor in a fashion post on a photography blog? Yep. it’s my blog and I make the rules.

In addition to Louise and Kerri, Julianne provided some amazing gowns from Lillian Lottie Couture and styled the models beautifully. Speaking of models, Victoria and Sarah both did a great job and embodied the vision our team had for this shoot.

cahoots – arizona extreme sport photography

Team endurance challenges are “suddenly” very popular and if you’re interested in these events then you should know about Cahoots. The good people of Cahoots held their inaugural event here in Arizona yesterday. They have two more events scheduled for 2012, Salt Lake City in August and Dallas in October.

I learnt of Cahoots through a tweet by Rachel Thurston. For you photogrpahers, yes “that” Rachel. She of the Zarias 6, of the myriad publications including some little known magazines like Glamour France, Wedding Magazine UK, and Elite Wedding, she of the little blue house with a Nova inside. That Rachel Thurston.

So I answered her tweet looking for photographers to cover the event, and that’s how I ended up in Buckeye, AZ on a Saturday morning shooting muddy people, scratch that, shooting muddy, nutty people who all looked to be having a great time. I also got to meet Rachel plus Grant Porter, Natalie Norton, and Damian Dayton. It was different from what I usually shoot, but it was a blast. Plus I made some new friends. A big win all the way around.

Yesterday was Easter of course, which kinda means Spring is officially here. So why not start it off with a very Spring color-inspired shoot with Ashley, the first ryfoto senior of 2012. She is a cute (look at that smile!), sweet as can be, driven young woman. She was accepted into BYU and starts this summer…one week after HS graduation! She wore some spring colored tops which looked great against the flowers and grass. Good luck Ashley, go Cougars!

I met Recio more than a year ago. He is a young, smart, ambitious guy who is starting to see good things happen to his model and talent management agency, Courtier. Along with partners, Donovon and Jose, Recio will appear on The CW’s new series “Remodeled” this coming Wednesday. I shot them in studio last week for some upcoming promo work.

We first met the Skousens when we moved to Tokyo in 2008. They were one of several kind families who eased our transition to a new life in Japan. (In fact they had us over for Mexican food the first week we were there.) Even though we ended up spending just a year in Japan, the Skousens are among lifelong friends we made in that short time. I was excited when asked to photograph Brittany’s bridals. She has grown from the young girl we knew in Japan into a beautiful young woman with a fabulous smile who will make a lovely bride. In fact she is getting married today in San Diego.

I couldn’t help myself and pulled a couple of photos of Brittany from the Japan archive for this post too. Below is Brittany at Thanksgiving 2008 in Tokyo and on a multi-family camping trip in the Japanese Alps near Nagano.

…and now the bridals, taken Dec 31, 2011 in my home studio. I loved the colors she chose for wedding, and note the inclusion of some origami flowers. How cool are those? Best of luck Brittany and Bryant!
